Senior Data Analyst
We require a Senior Data Analyst to be responsible for administering the data and data users in the Enclave, to liaise with Enclave depositors and service providers, and to train junior staff. We are looking for someone with strong quantitative and analytical skills as well as the ability to write clearly and show attention to detail. The incumbent should have experience working with survey data, as well as training and mentoring experience. They should show a talent for innovation and ongoing learning. This is a full-time permanent position contingent on ongoing funding.
Requirements for the job:
- NQF 9 qualification in Economics or Statistics or any cognate discipline
- At least two years’ experience in curating data for research, including data cleaning, data quality assessment, data disclosure control and metadata creation
- At least two years’ experience working with data to be shared in a restricted-access environment
- Advanced skills in Stata data analysis software
- Demonstrable experience with DDI-compliant Metadata management software
- Demonstrable experience with web-based data dissemination software programmes
- A good working knowledge of Access and Excel software
- Demonstrated strong analytical skills
- Ability to write in English clearly and concisely
- Experience in training researchers in quantitative research methods
Responsibilities:
- Preparation of restricted-access datasets
- Creation of metadata according to international metadata schema standards
- Registration of research teams to use the secure Remote Access Data Enclave
- Online support to data users and Enclave research teams
- Vetting of research output from Enclave researchers
- Training and mentoring of Data Analysts
- Training of researchers in quantitative research methods
The annual cost of employment for 2024 including benefits, is between R 639 581 and R 752 447.

Data Analysts: Part-time/Full time
Description
We require Data Analysts to work at the Service. The incumbent will confirm data into research-ready formats. They will also source and cite published research that is based on our data. We are looking for applicants with a talent for quickly learning new tasks and who show attention to detail. They must also have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Requirements include:
- Master’s Degree in Economics or Statistics or any cognate discipline
- A high degree of competence in the Stata or R statistical software programmes
- Demonstrated strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organise, and analyse data
- Skills in working with quantitative projects
- Good Excel skills
- Competence in converting data from administrative formats, e.g. csv files, to data analysis software formats
Responsibilities include:
- Data quality checking
- Data anonymisation
- Metadata creation
- Citation management
French-Speaking Data Analyst
Description
We require a French-speaking Data Analyst to work on Francophone African datasets deposited with DataFirst for resharing. The incumbent will confirm data into research-ready formats. They will also source and cite published research that is based on our Francophone African data. We are looking for applicants with a talent for quickly learning new tasks and who show attention to detail. They must also have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Requirements include:
- Master’s Degree in Economics or Statistics or any cognate discipline
- A high degree of competence in the Stata or R statistical software programmes
- Demonstrated strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organise, and analyse data
- Skills in working with quantitative projects
Responsibilities include:
- Data quality checking
- Data anonymisation
- Metadata creation in French and English
- Citation management in French and English
Both part-time and full-time contract Data Analyst positions are available. UCT’s remuneration rates apply according to the applicant’s degree/qualification.
